I am requested by the President of the

Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits to ask

your kind interest in the following matter.

Prior to hostilities between China and

Japan, the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-

Lits shipped 22 of their coaches, each weighing

approximately 44 tons and of 70 feet in length,

to the port of Shanghai for service on the

Chinese Railways.

Due to the conditions existing at

Shanghai as a result of the present conflict, it

became necessary, on or about the 27th September

last, to land these coaches at Hong Kong, and, by

the courtesy of the British Section of the Kowloon-

Canton Railway, location was provided on the

property of the Railway.

It now appears that, in connection with

this, 1400 feet of siding is being laid down, and

the Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits has
